#51for51 Campaign

We worked with The Hub Project – a major DC-based advocacy organization – on their “51 for 51” campaign. The campaign wanted to create a series of videos that would advocate for eliminating the Senate filibuster as a means to make Washington, D.C. the 51st state. Our goal was to both explain the need to eliminate the filibuster while also emotionally engaging the audience in a call for action. Given the complexity of the situation, this was no easy task.

The Challenge

The campaign was jumpstarting a multi-million dollar push to finally give citizens of Washington, DC the same rights as every American. But eliminating the filibuster is not an easy task – or an easy concept to explain – and we needed to do it in a series of videos under 90 seconds. Moreso, we needed to explain (to a potentially uninformed audience) the importance of DC statehood and the necessity of eliminating the filibuster.

To achieve the campaign goals, we focused on what matters most – the people of DC. We wanted the audience to know who the 700,000 residents of DC are, and why it is important for them to have representation in Congress. After all, no one likes the idea of taxation without representation.

We created a series of videos that could launch across all of the campaigns platforms, including versions for social media and mass-market advertising. We launch the campaign with an anthem video designed to establish these emotional themes while developing a set of easy-to-understand illustrations and motion graphics to help visualize the filibuster rule. Throughout the video series, we used the voices of DC citizens, activists and politicians to tell the story, in their own words, about the importance of DC becoming the 51st State.

Distribution and Outcome

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum
